Having 2 Under 2: Is It Time for Another Baby?

Let’s talk about having 2 under 2… It’s something that’s been on my mind even before having Monty! For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted my babies to be close in age. Growing up as a twin, I absolutely loved having a sibling so close to me. Plus, my brother is only 16 months older, and we’ve always had such a special bond. It’s a dynamic I’ve always wanted to recreate for myself.

Broody Much?

When I came home from the hospital with Monty, I immediately felt SO broody. Everyone told me it was just my hormones and that the feeling would fade, but here I am 11 weeks later, and it’s still there. Sure, it’s not as intense as those early weeks, but I love the idea of having 2 under 2. Now, we’re at a bit of a crossroads—do we wait another year or more, or do we just dive in and go for baby number two sooner?

The Fun vs. The Stress

Having 2 under 2 sounds like such a mix of chaos and joy. On one hand, I love the idea of two little ones so close in age, growing up together as besties. But on the other hand, I know it’ll be stressful af. Monty is such a chill baby, and I can’t help but wonder… What if the next one isn’t as easy-going? Am I ready to handle that?

The IVF Question

If I do get pregnant again, I will be excited to enjoy the pregnancy in its entirety. With Monty being my first and conceiving him via IVF, I was incredibly nervous and it took months to become confident and comfortable with the pregnancy and my body. Knowing what I know now, I think I will be more present and comfortable which will bring a whole new set of memories.

Speaking of IVF, we have the choice of trying to conceive naturally or through using one of our embryos. J is wanting to try naturally before turning to IVF and using one of our previous embryos. We have a lot to figure out but can’t wait to start the process!

The Pros and Cons

It’s hard not to weigh up the pros and cons of having 2 under 2:

Pros:

  • They’ll be close in age and hopefully have a really close relationship.

  • We’re already in the baby zone, so it’s not like we’d have to “remember” what life was like with a newborn.

  • We’ve got a good routine going.

  • I genuinely loved being pregnant.

Cons:

  • The tiredness… I know it’ll be next level.

  • Taking TWO kids out instead of just one? That’s a whole new ball game.

  • It’ll definitely be more expensive.

Final Thoughts

For now, taking it day by day. I can’t deny how much I want another baby, but I also want to make sure the timing is right for us. Whether we go for it soon or wait a little longer, I know it’ll be worth it in the end!
