Partners To Parents

After eight years of it just being us (and the doggies), it’s been such an interesting shift stepping into parenthood and learning how to balance being partners, parents, and juggling work and life. Overall, it’s been pretty smooth sailing, but of course, we’ve had our ups and downs. The biggest challenge for us has definitely been work. Both working from home has its perks (we’re both always around for Monty) but also makes things tricky when you’re trying to focus with a baby in the house. We had to really figure out our rhythm, trial different schedules, and now we sit down each Monday to map out the week ahead, which works best for us.

I feel so grateful we’ve both been here full-time to raise Monty together. Looking back, it made such a huge difference for me in those early postpartum months. Something I didn’t expect was how easy it is to slip into feeling like “roommates” when you’re constantly switching shifts. One on baby, one on work. We’ve made it a priority to keep weekends for family time and to spend our evenings together once Monty’s asleep, which always feels a bit like the old days.

I actually just realized while writing this that we’ve never had a date night without Monty yet, and he’s almost one! With our anniversary next week, I think it’s time we plan a little baby-free dinner (though knowing us, we’ll probably just talk about him the whole time). This year has definitely been a learning curve, figuring out how to keep the spark alive while navigating new roles but, I’m so proud of us and the team we’ve become for Monty.
