Why I’m Not Breastfeeding: A Personal Choice

As a new mum, there’s no shortage of opinions on how you should feed your baby, and it can feel overwhelming at times. For me, however, choosing not to breastfeed was a decision that came from a place of reflection on my own needs, values, and personal journey. After years of infertility, endless tests, treatments, and IVF, I was finally at the point where I just wanted my body to be mine again. The thought of breastfeeding, which would once again make my body feel like it wasn’t truly my own, didn’t sit right with me.

I also didn’t want to take on the full responsibility of feeding. I wanted my partner, J, to be just as involved in caring for our little one. Splitting the responsibilities 50/50 felt right for us both, and I wanted him to have the chance to bond in this special way, too.

Overall, I chose not to breastfeed, and I’ve never felt guilt or second-guessed that decision. Motherhood isn’t one-size-fits-all, and what matters most is doing what feels right for you and your family. While society often pushes breastfeeding as the only “right” choice, I’ve learned that true confidence comes from trusting yourself. For me, that meant letting go of external pressures and embracing what works best for us—and there’s so much freedom in that!

I’m ready for longer days, a little more sunshine, and that fresh energy that comes with spring. Bring on the warm breezes, lighter evenings, and the first signs of life popping up. Spring, it’s time!
